Orr-Ewing, who has been chairman since 2004, will step down from the board of the AIM-listed gold producer with immediate effect.
Yingbin Ian He, an existing director of the company, will take over as Chairman.
He has more than 30 years of mining experience including as Chief Executive Officer of Tri-River Ventures and President of Spur Ventures.
"It has been a privilege to serve as chairman during such a momentous and exciting time for the company," Orr-Ewing said.
"The business has transformed from a diamond exploration company in 2004 to owning and operating one of the highest grade gold mines in the world."
He said the company remains focused on financing and developing the Vatukoula mine in Fiji to achieve its long term sustainable production targets.
