‘A wealth tax would be devastating for UK businesses,’ Richard Harpin warns Labour

Sir Richard Harpin, a self-made billionaire who sold HomeServe for over £4 billion, has urged Labour to avoid further tax rises and instead reward risk-takers to help the UK thrive. The entrepreneur also shared his advice for business leaders and explained how you could build your own multi-million-pound company.

Further changes to the tax regime would deter businesses from investing in the UK and stunt economic growth, entrepreneur and HomeServe founder Sir Richard Harpin warns.

Prime minister Andy Burnham was rumoured to be looking at bringing capital gains tax rates closer to income tax rates in the upcoming Autumn Budget, but self-made billionaire Harpin says this, or the possible introduction of a wealth tax, would be “absolutely devastating for British business” and result in an exodus of the wealthy – neither of which would help the UK economy.
