A mouth-watering riesling at a modest price
Who’d have thought that the Co-op would be the destination for this thrilling elixir, asks Matthew Jukes.

2014 Goldtrpfchen, Riesling Kabinett, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Mosel, Germany (£9.99, Co-operative stores nationwide, 0800-0686 727).
I was on a day trip to Trier, in southwestern Germany, a few months ago, with my teenage daughters, for what ostensibly sounded like a bit of a boring excursion. Trier has an unusually impressive collection of "green men" on the outside of buildings and also in the incredibly beautiful cathedral.
My mother is somewhat of an expert on the subject (she is a guide at Canterbury cathedral, so is a veritable font of information) and so we set about scouring the city centre on a weird kind of architectural treasure hunt.

Have a look at my Instagram feed, back in February, for a montage of theresults! Anyway, von Kesselstatt owns Weinstube Kesselstatt, a superb brasserie next to the cathedral in Trier, and we retired there to escape the rain at lunchtime and never left.
This phenomenal winery makes some of the most exquisite and mouth-watering of all Mosel rieslings and we tasted the range. I then set out on another mission, on my return to the UK to find you one of their wines.
Who'd have thought that the Co-op would be the destination for this thrilling elixir? It's half the price you can get anywhere else and, at only 8.5% alcohol, I would advise loading up for summer lunch parties because this beauty is sure to move fast when the word gets out.
