The most fun you can have on the road – and off it too
Four quirky cars that are guaranteed to turn heads.
Swedish company Gray Design has created the perfect vehicle for the zombie apocalypse, says HiConsumption.com. The Sidewinder is "an insane buggy designed for whatever you can throw at it" while out on the sand dunes. It pumps out 630 horsepower and and can go from rest to 60mph in just 4.2 seconds, and onto a top speed of 93mph (on the sand).
Price: £157,000. Contact: GrayDesign.se.
The Ariel Nomad is a thrilling off-road plaything and one of the most exuberant, full-filled vehicles to be launched this year, says Henry Catchpole in Evo magazine. On the road, the performance is impressive: 60mph comes in just 3.4 seconds fromrest and the top speed is 134mph for those who can stand the noise. But it really excels off-road. Catchpole took it to Walters Arena in South Wales, a mix of gravel roads and muddy forest tracks, and had the most fun he'd had all year.

"It coped with some big hits and although initially I winced, wondering whether the little Nomad would be able to handle the abuse, it soaked up everything I threw at it. In turn it threw mud at me, but I didn't mind in the slightest."
Price: £33,000.
The Morgan Plus 4 is something truly special, says Simon Wittenberg on LuxuriousMagazine.com. The iconic shape of the car has not changed since it first launched over 60 years ago, and it still turns heads like nothing else on the road. It's not blisteringly fast the lastest Plus 4 model is powered by a 2.0-litre Ford engine, which will give you a 0-60mph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 118mph. But it is a "pure motoring experience" "best enjoyed with the roof down" on a country road where you'll find it "wonderful to drive".
Price: from £35,400.
Most relics from the 1970s are buried with stakes through their hearts, says Pat Malone in The Sunday Times, but the Beach Buggy refuses to die. UK sales are on the rise, according to the small companies around the UK that still make them. Flatlands Engineering in King's Lynn, for example, will "source the dead VW Beetle" from which they are made and sell you the finished article for £14,500. East Coast Buggies in Rutland will sell you the fibreglass bodywork and little else for between £1,200 and £2,000. You'll only be comfortable in one for about three days of the year in Britain. But you won't care when you're at the wheel: they are great fun to drive.
