Why this cheap market looks an even better bet today

Amongst the mayhem of the Middle East and the nuclear disaster in Japan, the Russian equity market has never looked so good, says Bengt Saelensminde. Here, he tips an investment trust to gain exposure to the world's cheapest market.

On 28 January I made the case that Russian equities were seriously under-valued. And for a while, the markets agreed. The main Russian index moved up a cracking 8% in just 5 weeks.

During that time, the major Western markets had slowed to a standstill. And the rest of theEmerging Markets (EM) had been hit hard. So that makes Russia's performance even more impressive.

Bengt graduated from Reading University in 1994 and followed up with a master's degree in business economics.

 

He started stock market investing at the age of 13, and this eventually led to a job in the City of London in 1995. He started on a bond desk at Cantor Fitzgerald and ended up running a desk at stockbroker's Cazenove.

 

Bengt left the City in 2000 to start up his own import and beauty products business which he still runs today.
