Judges Scientific (Aim: JDG) was once a favourite of the London market. Over the years from March 2004 to March 2024, the shares rose 10,300%, compared with a return of just 160% for the FTSE All-Share excluding dividends. But since reaching an all-time high in 2024, the shares have lost nearly two-thirds of their value. Investors have clearly lost patience with the group, which once commanded a valuation of 40-plus times forward earnings. However, the issues seem to be more cyclical than structural, and the underlying business model is far from broken.
