2014 Yalumba, Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon, South Australia (£10.99, reduced to £8.99 each in a "mix six" deal until 30 July, Majestic).
This is a great wine and it is a fantastic time to buy a case because the stunning 2014 vintage has only a few thousand bottles left in stock before it rolls on to the equally gorgeous 2015 vintage, in the next few weeks. Both vintages are superb. Yalumba has emerged as the number one estate in my annual 100 Best Australian Wines Report initiative over the past 13 years.
On 23 May I launch the 14th edition of the report and it is not breaking with my self-imposed embargo to let you know that this stellar company continues its run of incredible successes. It is a seriously inexpensive wine, but Y Series is not the lowest rung on the Yalumba ladder Oxford Landing Estates, a high street brand owned by Yalumba, is another mightily reliable player. Y Series is, however, where the wines gather gravitas and this 2014 made the 100 Best grade last year.

It is beautifully made, genuinely delicious and made from superbly fit fruit. Above this level you can take your pick of lusty viogniers, pin-sharp rieslings, sultry chardonnays, smouldering shirazes, forthright cabernet/shiraz blends and even sweet and fortified stunners. But on 25 May, 2012 Yalumba The Caley, the pinnacle wine at Yalumba, will be finally launched in the UK.A perfect 20/20 see my website for details.
