Emerging markets are the ‘buy of the decade’

Emerging markets account for most of the world’s ten worst-performing equity indices in 2018, but that doesn’t mean emerging markets in general are in crisis.

This time last year, investors in emerging markets had enjoyed an 85% increase in the benchmark MSCI Emerging Markets index over two years, and were looking forward to a hat trick. They didn't get one. After peaking in late January, the index slipped back into a bear market, losing nearly a quarter between late January and this week. Emerging markets account for most of the world's ten worst-performing equity indices in 2018 to date.
