The new Gumpert Apollo S
The new Gumpert Apollo S sports car exudes animal energy - and it bites too.
If you're fed up with supercars that have been "neutered" by "nannying electronic driver aids", then you are likely to approve of the new Gumpert Apollo S, says Jason Barlow in The Sunday Times. The car "exudes animal energy even when it's parked in the garage. It bites too." The interior has "a modicum of comfort features, such as soft leather on the dash, but you still have to take the steering wheel off to get in, there's a full four-point race harness instead of a seatbelt, and you can see next to nothing behind you. But then, how many cars are going to be coming up behind you? Scary? You bet."
It "boggles the mind" that such a car is road-legal, says Barlow: nothing with a tax disc in its window feels quite like this. It will hit 124mph in less than nine seconds, and doesn't quit until you're on the far side of 200mph. It's "cosmically, almost comically fast". Driving it is "like being beaten around the head. In a good way."
Price: £500,000 (estimate). Engine: 4,163cc, V8, twin turbo.
