The fastest school run in the world
If you want a supercar that is practical enough for the school run or daily commute, Porsche's 911 Turbo S is it.
Porsche has uprated the 911 Turbo, taking it deeper into supercar territory, says David Vivian in Evo. The Turbo S is "a faster, more focused version of what already ranks as the fastest and most accelerative car in its range, the four-wheel-drive 911 Turbo".
The reworked turbo engine is more powerful yet no thirstier and, "if acceleration, grip and stopping power are priorities", the result is "pretty damn awesome". The 911 Turbo Sis as quick to 62mph as a McLaren F1 (0-62mph in 3.3 seconds) and is only half a nose behind at 100mph. And the "blistering" pace makes only "relatively modest demands on driver talent".
The 'S' is a landmark in Porsche's history, says Andrew Frankel in The Sunday Times. If you want a car faster than this, you'll have to step up to Bugatti Veyron territory. But it's not so much the "pulverising" acceleration as the "civilised surroundings" that "leaves the greatest impression".

"For all its phenomenal pace, the Turbo S is quiet, well equipped and comfortable enough to be used as an everyday, all-purpose car." So if you want a supercar that is civilised and practical enough for the school run or daily commute, the Turbo S is "the only act in town".
