3i's new chairman has acquired his first shares in the private equity company since joining the board.
Sir Adrian Montague bought 10,000 shares at 279.2p each, for a total cost of £27,920.
Sir Adrian joined the 3i board on 1 June 2010 and became chairman of the FTSE 100 company on 7 July. Sir Adrian is also chairman of Michael Page International and Anglian Water Group

Investment in the second quarter of 2010 totalled £105m, compared to £79m in the second quarter of 2009. Of the £105m invested, £70m was pumped into the existing portfolio with the remainder going into the group's first investment in French acute care company Vedici.
Realisation proceeds (excluding funds managed or advised by 3i) were £79m, versus £163m a year earlier. The sale of Kneip, which provides services to asset managers, generated £29m.
Realisations exclude the partial realisation of testing and inspection firm Inspicio, which is being acquired by Bureau Veritas. The deal was signed in the period will not complete until the end of the summer, generating proceeds of around £120m.
At the end of June the group had cash, cash deposits and undrawn committed facilities of £2.36bn, down from £2.73bn at the end of the first quarter.
