EasyJet's director Sir Michael Rake has reached into his back pocket to purchase 3,108 shares in his company. The shares, bought at 319.184p each, brings Sir Rake's total to 12,308, representing a 0.0029% stake in the budget airline. Sir Rake joined the board in 2009 and took up his current position a year later. EasyJet was recently voted the airline with the best white wine by a panel of wine experts and international travellers. Founder and major shareholder of the company, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, was granted his request to hold an extraordinary meeting to vote on the removal of outgoing senior independent director Sir David Michels, who is standing down at the end of the year.Sir Stelios called for the vote after Sir David voted through a bonus for previous chief executive Andy Harrison for staying on an additonal three months and for deciding to order new planes shortly before the company issued a profit warning.Less than a fortnight ago the airline announced that its passenger numbers had risen 8% from the year before and that it had filled 91.7% of available seats, up slightly from 90.9% the previous year.
