Three stunning wines from Fortnum’s
Matthew Jukes samples three of Fortnum and Mason's finest wines.
2008 Fortnum's Riesling Grand Cru Pfersigberg, Domaine Bruno Sorg, Alsace, France (£21.50, reduced to £18.28 for a case, Fortnum & Mason, 0845-300 1707).
I trotted down to Fortnum's beautiful wine department the other day to see my old pal Tim French. He has been the buyer at F&M for a decade and he has unerring accuracy when it comes to picking out his own label wines.
I am not going to reveal my coming Christmas selection for you (they could all conceivably come from F&M!), but I will point you towards three wines this week that you simply must taste. Firstly, this scintillating Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace.

The intensity of lime juice and wild flower fruit, coupled with the heavenly, silky texture and hour long finish, make it one of the stand-out wines of the year. Drink it with complex starters or even roast chicken and you will amazed.
Also look out for 2011 F&M Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (£15.50, reduced to £13.18 for a case). This is made by the Isabel Estate and it is breathtakingly stunning. Finally, 2011 F&M Priorat, Spain (same price), is made by the staggeringly talented Alvaro Palacios under the Camins del Priorat banner it is one of the most dramatic Spanish reds of the year.
