Elling E6: a sprightly transatlantic cruiser
Ten years after unveiling the E4, Dutch boat maker Elling has launched a new model, the E6.
Ten years after unveiling the E4, Dutch boat maker Elling has launched a new model, the E6. It has fully re-engineered the E4 and restyled it to produce something that is bigger, faster and sleeker, says Stef Bottinelli in Yachting & Boating World. The spacious interior features all mod cons, including a dishwasher and wine cooler, and there are four cabins. As an optional extra, you can fit the boat with a Seakeeper gyro stabilising system, which takes out 80% of the roll at sea great news for those who suffer from sea sickness.
The E6 gives us the best of all worlds, says Jack Haines in Motorboat & Yachting. With its single engine and 5,000-litre fuel tanks, you can cross the Atlantic without refuelling, yet its 900hp Volvo engine is also capable of pushing it to speeds of more than 20 knots, giving it a cruising speed in the high teens fast enough to ignore adverse tides and bad weather on shorter and less demanding coast passages, such as between Dartmouth and Gibraltar.
The boat is also safe the safest in the world according to the boat makers, a claim they like to prove by rolling their boats 360 in demonstrations and constructing their hulls from Kevlar and Twaron, two high-strength and nigh on indestructible materials. The Elling E6 is truly one of a kind.
