A Porsche to love and honour forever
The Porsche 911 R more than lives up to the hype.
In an era when 911 Carreras have gone soft and the GT3 RS prioritises "lappery" above all else, there was a hole for Porsche to fill with "emotion and purity of spirit", says Michael Taylor on Motoring.com.au. The 911 R is that car "it's the Porsche that lives up to the hype and then some". It's the lightest road-going Porsche money can buy, runs on the GT3 RS's "thumping" engine, and will "whip" you from rest to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds. If you love driving, this is the 911 to "own, cherish and hold on to forever".
We tested it all the way to 200mph, and it is a truly great 911, says Henry Catchpole in Evo magazine. It has an involving gearbox, an intoxicating engine and a wonderful chassis. The engine noise fills the cabin beautifully, the performance is "hugely impressive" and the looks are stunning. It "really is a very special car to spend time with".
The only downside is that you've got "more chance of buying Colonel Sanders' recipe" than getting your hands on one of these limited edition cars, says Catchpole. If your name isn't already on a list, you're sadly out of luck.
