Salaries for the chief executives of the FTSE 100 have soared to new heights in comparison to what the average worker is paid.

Here's why people are so crossabout the executive pay gap, saysRachel Savage in ManagementToday. The median FTSE 100CEO now earns 120 times morethan a typical full-time Britishworker.

In 2000, it was 47 timesmore. Staff earnings haveonly risen by 48% since then,while CEOs' pay has jumpedby 278% almost a fourfoldrise. Media, marketing andtelecoms top executives rakein the most, with total medianearnings of almost £7m.
