Six Cypriot secrets
For great weather, beautiful views and luxurious accommodation, you can’t go far wrong with Cyprus, says Ruth Jackson.
For great weather, beautiful views and luxurious accommodation, you can't go far wrong with Cyprus. Here are six great options for a summer sunshine holiday.
Anassa Hotel, Latchi
The sizeable grounds, sloping down to the beach, house several pools, restaurants and a spa. "Despite a five-star rating, and membership in the Leading Hotels of the World chain, the Anassa is surprisingly unsnooty you can pad around without censure in shorts and flip-flops (except in the formal restaurants)." If your budget allows, go for a garden studio, some of which have "private plunge pools".
From €430 a night, including breakfast; €670 for a garden studio(Anassa.com.cy; 00 357 26 888 000).

The Thalassa Hotel, Paphos
From €193, including breakfast (Thalassa.com.cy; 00 357 26 881 500).
Apokryfo, Troodos Mountains
Now it is a hotel that "houses those who come to drink in the flower-cloaked slopes of the Troodos Mountains". There are plenty of hiking routes to explore best tackled in the morning when it's cooler or you can simply choose to laze by the pool.
"Local architect Vakis Hadjikyriacou and his interior designer wife Diana have done a wonderful job of restoring this cluster of stone buildings," says Liz Bird in The Times. "Ornate wooden bedheads and beautiful fabrics" complement "the arched-beamed ceilings and open fires in the luxury suites, studios and houses." You can enjoy "delicious meze" on the rooftop terrace and there's also a sauna, steam bath and library.
Doubles from €150, including breakfast (Apokryfo.com; 00 357 2581 3777).
Villa Milos, Miliou
Seven nights' self catering from £573pp, including flights and car hire, based on six people sharing (Meonvillas.co.uk; 0844 879 7388).
Ktima self-catering, Droushia
Within the apartments, "expect original wood and flagstone floors along with kitchenettes (no oven), air conditioning and free wi-fi". If you don't want to cook, the pool bar serves snacks during the day, and for dinner you can "stroll to one of the local tavernas or head to the fish restaurants at Latchi, a 15-minute drive away".
Seven nights for two from £615pp, including breakfast, flights and car hire (Sunvil.co.uk; 020 8758 4758).
