Pearson's Penguin boss picks up £2.2m

John Makinson, a director at the publisher Pearson and chairman and chief executive of its book publishing arm Penguin, has pocketed £2.2m from the sale of shares in the company.

He sold 200,000 Pearson shares at 1,106p a time leaving him with 402,815 shares.

Makinson was finance director of Pearson between 1996 and 2002. Before that he was the managing director of the Financial Times, which is published by Pearson.

Like all Pearson's businesses, Penguin posted a rise in sales in 2010, helping Pearson to higher pre-tax profits.
