Hammerson directors go shopping
A round-up of the biggest director deals today so far.
Two senior board members at Hammerson have both bought shares in the shopping centre operator, buying into weakness after a recent plummet in profits. Chief Executive David Atkins made a purchase of 16,000 shares at 404.2p per share, while Terry Duddy, the group's non-excutive director, purchased 20,000 at 405.75p per share. Atkins, who has been part of the company since 1998 and a member of the board since 2003, now has a total of 161,977 shares in the company. He is also on the board of the European Public Real Estate Association and is on the advisory committee of the British Council of Shopping Centres.Following his purchase, Duddy, who was appointed to his role in 2009, now owns 40,000 shares in the company. He is chief executive of Home Retail, the home and merchandise retailer behind the Argos and Homebase brands. Hammerson, which owns the Brent Cross shopping centre in London and Birmingham's Bullring, recently saw its profits plummet by over 40% in the half year ended 30 June, despite higher net rental income. The company saw a significant fall in its share price since announcing the dismal results on 1 August.
