AIM-listed multi-currency payment processor Planet Payment is to add support of China UnionPay's credit and debit cards to the MICROS Payment Gateway Systems.
MICROS Systems provides IT solutions for the hospitality and retail industries and its Payment Gateway has been integrated within Planet Payment's data centre and processing platform - this provides customers using Planet Payment's platform with access to MICROS's suite of enterprise hospitality products.
Through today's agreement, UnionPay card transactions can be processed directly through the MICROS point-of-sale systems, "providing hoteliers with a more efficient way to accept UnionPay credit and debit cards, as well as all other major payment types," the statement said. The service will be launched in the second quarter of 2012.

Planet Payment and UnionPay signed a global processing agreement earlier this month, meaning that it could add support of UnionPay to its transaction platform.
"Now any hotelier using the Planet Payment MICROS Payment Gateway can support the processing of UnionPay credit and debit cards and other major payment cards directly through their MICROS property management systems, enabling them to accept this important card product while enjoying the benefits of an integrated payment system," said Planet Payment's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Philip Beck.
