Jason du Preez, CEO, Privitar

What does your business do?

Privitar provides data-privacy software for organisations seeking to improve services and experiences through the use of advanced analytics and data science.

What’s been your company’s greatest achievement so far?

Since launching three years ago, Privitar has secured multi-year software licence deals with blue-chip customers in the health, finance, pharmaceuticals and telecommunication industries across Europe, North America and Asia. Our customers are some of the best-known brands in the world – which is really motivating.

What has been your biggest challenge?

There’s a common misconception that a choice must be made between privacy protections and effective data science. In reality, the former supports the latter. Advanced privacy-enhancing technologies are enabling data scientists to safely work with data in a way that complies with regulation.

What are your plans for hitting your targets this year?

At the moment we are seeing growing awareness of the importance of privacy in a data-driven world.Privitar is growing rapidly, with bold international expansion under way and growing sales teams in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, as well as the US. Focus is key and we are looking to replicate our success to date by driving adoption and awareness of privacy technologies in regulated industries.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give fellow entrepreneurs?

Building a company is an endurance event and focus is critical. So run the sprint you’re in and then build on each successive milestone to achieve your vision.
