2013 Classico Terlaner, Cantina Terlano, Alto Adige, Italy (about £16, Selfridges, 0200-7318 2375; Bottle Apostle, 020-8985 1549; Highbury Vintners, 020-7226 1347; Corks of Cotham, 0117-973 1620; Field & Fawcett, 01904-489073; WoodWinters,0131-667 2760).
I was lucky enough to meet Klaus Gasser of Cantina Terlano the other day for what was one of the pivotal wine tastings of my life. I am not well versed in the wines from this iconic estate, but in the space of two hours I became a slavering devotee, hanging off the side of every single glass that was poured.
I tasted vintages as far back as 1956 and the wines were incredibly clear, bright, complex and enthralling. I have never tasted white Burgundies this old that were anywhere near as magical or captivating. I could devote an entire edition of MoneyWeek to the notes that I wrote about the wines, but you only have to remember the name Terlano.
My featured estate cuvée, a blend of pinot blanc, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, is the first step on a life-changing journey into this unique co-operative winery which was founded back in 1893. The merchants listed above sell this wine and a few other bottlings, too.
Suffice to say that if you have the chance to taste any Rarità bottlings or indeed the new I Grand Cuvée, which was previewed during my tasting, then you should drop everything to do so.
