Chart of the week: Sugar high is wearing off
The price of sugar bounced off a four-year low in late January, but it’s set to head back down again, says Alexandra Wexler in Barron’s. The recent uptick was due to weather in Brazil, the top grower and exporter.
January and February were the driest in 30 years. But rain has returned and Brazil’s sugar crop should still match last year’s record, which would ensure that global output keeps rising. “We’re still going to have a glut,” says Citigroup’s Sterling Smith.
